Press Clippings

You may  or may not have heard that two days ago a group of Mai Mai militias raided a small village in Eastern DRC and essentially held it hostage for 4 days, raping 154 women REPEATEDLY over the 4 day siege. The humanitarian community was unable to go into the village for the duration of their time there – it was only when the Mai Mai grew tired and left that the siege was finally broken.

This is such a heartbreaking story; a reminder that maybe the UN rolling out of the DRC so quickly isn’t such a good idea. For me personally, its scary because I’m heading that way for a week in a few days and the fact that my boss says “you’re staying with my family”  doesn’t do much to reassure me! Anyway, those who believe, pray. Those who don’t, now would be a good time to start.

Alertnet was the first to break the story. The BBC’s paltry coverage
